Have a cup of coffee... and after you watch your Eastern team play tonight, grab your remote and watch this game! The blockbuster trade between these two teams was arguably the biggest of the year since Dion Phaneuf. Both teams are shuffling in the 5th and 6th spot out west, hoping to hang on. Pheonix desperately needed to put a strong winger with Paul Statsny (one of the players to watch). They got one from the team they will play tonight – The Colorado Avalanche. Wojtek Wolski is a Poland born powerful winger, and the Coyotes are hoping their new-comer will have the chemistry that Peter Muller didn’t.
I may be wrong but I think the high elevation in Denver got to someone in the Avs front office. That or they were smoking some really good midwestern treebark. The howlers got the better deal in this one. Though in Muellers defense, he hasn't played a full season.
Speaking of Mueller… the Avs are hoping that Mueller will find his natural scoring touch – perhaps with Matt Duchene . He needs to find himself on this team or his financial future will be bleak.
When I was going over stats to prepare for this one my eyes were getting crossed. Nothing like criss-crossing players the night before the two teams face eachother. I've had easier Sudoku games.
Players to watch (other than Wolski and Mueller):
PHX - Shane Doan: A hard-nosed, crafty left winger that plays with a ton of heart. he's already registered 47 points this year. I love watching Shane crash the net and work along the boards.
COL - Paul Statsny: We all watched what he could do in the Olympics. ALSO- Jean-Michael Liles has only played 43 games this year but he has 21 assists and watching him quarterback the puck is entertainment in itself. He is an INCREDIBLE passer.
